US National Monuments
US national monuments can provide great stopping points during a long trip, punctuating the trip with history.
Do We Have to Stop Again?
If you’re out on the road and your kids are arguing with each other again, it’s the perfect time to stop the car and see some national monuments. Some of the most visited ones include:
- Casa Grande Ruins – Located just outside of Phoenix, Arizona, the huge ruins are a lovely sight and they are roped off so no one will get hurt in the process. Well, it does get pretty hot in Arizona, so that might be something to keep in mind.
- Devils Tower – This rock formation juts up into the sky, making for perfect family photo opportunities, though the national monument can’t guarantee everyone will smile at the same time.
- Giant Sequoia – If you’re interested in seeing the giant redwoods, Sequoia National Park is the place to go in California.
- Mount St. Helens – The remnants of that huge volcano blast can be viewed here, but the mountain is still rumbling, but it’s best to stay back.
- Muir Woods – Again California offers you a chance to see what it’s like to be a part of the original land of the United States. Step in John Muir’s shoes and get lost in the woods for a bit.
But the best trips to national monuments will be the ones where you see the sign, stop off for a bit, and see something that you didn’t expect to see.
